What is voicemail?

Voicemail is a system that allows a caller to leave a spoken message if the called party is currently unavailable or cannot answer the call.

This is similar to the answering machine you may be familiar with from your landline telephone at home. A caller who cannot reach you directly can leave a message instead, which you can then listen to later.

In a business using Virtual-Call's Cloud PBX, this feature would be seamlessly integrated with the overall telephony system. For example, if a caller cannot reach you directly on your extension because you are in a meeting or your line is already busy, the call is forwarded directly to voicemail. The caller can leave a message there, which will then be sent to you by e-mail, or you can listen to it as soon as you are available again.

In addition, in many modern systems, voicemail can convert the voice message into text and forward it to you by e-mail. This allows you to read the message if you are unable to listen to it, or if it is quicker or more convenient to read it.
